One of the most famous clubs in France, the president of Jean-Michel Aulas, announced that the club intends to build a new 60,000 seat stadium, where the team could play as early as 2011.
The current French champions play in the "Stade Gerland", which can accommodate 39,000 spectators, but the club's president wants his team to play in a more modern arena.
"The mayor of Lyon is seeking ways to help us build a new stadium," said J.M. Aulas. "At the moment, we are finishing writing a project that will be presented to the relevant authorities."
The mayor of Lyon is seeking ways to increase the number of seats in the current "Stade Gerland", but this seems very complicated. If this plan fails, the mayor will do everything possible to help "Lyon" build a new stadium.
"I know that the current stadium is too small," the city mayor said. "Currently, only 39,000 people watch the matches, although there are 60,000 who want to. If we can't expand the current one, I will allow the construction of a new arena. It is important that the stadium is in the city."
