The French champion won the first trophies of the new season - the club was defeated in the matches held in Cannes city.

The Brazilian Elber led his team forward in the 55th minute, but Fiorese equalized the score after sixteen minutes. At the end of regular time, the scoreboard still showed two ones, so according to the cup rules, penalty kicks were taken from 11 meters.

Neither team scored from the first five penalties, but all six shots were accurate. Then it was the turn of Toure, who entered the field after a substitution, but his attempt was stopped by Lyon's goalkeeper Coupet. Berthod scored accurately from the 11-meter mark, and the league champions extended the series, in which they have been defeating the country's cup winners for the fifth season in this cup.

It was also the third consecutive French triumph in the super cup for Lyon: in 2002 they defeated Lorient 5-1, and last season they won 2-1.
