"Juventus" team faced a fair amount of criticism in Italy after they squandered a two-goal lead against London's "Tottenham".
In yesterday's first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final clash, "Juventus" played a 2-2 draw against their opponents from London. After Gonzalo Higuain's brace, the "Old Lady" had a two-goal advantage, and the same Argentine forward could have scored another goal at the end of the first half but missed from the penalty spot.
Massimiliano Allegri did not understand why "Juventus" received such a wave of criticism. According to the coach, they should not expect to win every match with a 3-0 scoreline, and their chances of reaching the quarter-finals are still good.
"First of all, Juventus plays in the Champions League, but we are not the favorites to win it. It's almost impossible to reach the final every season, and everyone understands that," said Allegri.
"We are having a great season, and the players are doing a great job. I am happy with what we are doing, but I understand that there is room for improvement. We still have good chances to progress.
I just want to say that people should not expect us to win the quarter-finals with a 3-0 scoreline. That expectation is a bit naive when you understand the level of teams in the Champions League. I disagree with people who say that a 2-2 draw with Tottenham makes us depressed before the return leg," the coach concluded.
The decisive showdown at Wembley Stadium will take place on March 7th. Juventus will need to secure a victory or play a draw with a greater difference than 1-1.
