Cristiano Ronaldo's heir at Real Madrid, Marco Asensio, helped the team earn crucial points in the Spanish La Liga championship over the weekend.
The 22-year-old footballer, playing in both defensive and attacking midfielder positions, is not only considered the best young footballer in Madrid, but also one of the biggest talents on the planet.
Asensio revealed that he did not consider taking over the legendary number after Ronaldo's departure, as he has different goals for the future.
"The club did not offer me the number 7, but that was not something I was aiming for. In the future, I would like to take over the number 10, which I have always loved. Right now it is in very good hands (Modric's - ed.), but later I will definitely think about this possibility," Asensio admitted.
Talking about his growing role in the team, Asensio acknowledged that he will do everything not to disappoint the team: "You can put as much responsibility on my shoulders as you want. The more I have, the more confident I will be in my abilities.
I feel that I am more important to the team than ever before. Of course, I want to score as many goals as possible and contribute to the team's victories."
