The captain of the German national team, Michael Ballack, hopes to finalize the details of his contract with a London club in the coming days, but he was disappointed that during the last match held in Munich on Saturday, he was booed by his own fans.
M. Ballack, who helped the Munich club win the Bundesliga three times and three German cups during his four years at Bayern, accused the club management of turning the fans against him.
"The situation escalated due to statements by the club management in the press," said M. Ballack.
"Fans react to the words of the club leaders. But I always tried to give my all for the club and that should be respected. Now I want a new challenge. I have to come to terms with the booing. It proves that I was an important player, but it hurts me," said the German.
The fans started booing M. Ballack before the match, when flowers were presented to him and other players leaving the club in an official ceremony. The 29-year-old midfielder seemed stunned by the reaction of the 69,000 fans gathered at the Allianz Arena.
The booing continued until halftime, when Bayern's commercial director Uli Hoeness went onto the field and asked the fans to stop.
M. Ballack said he couldn't announce his future earlier because not everything was up to him. He thanked the "fantastic team for the great times" and stated that he would decide about his future "in the next few days."
