Today at 1 pm, Kaunas "Stumbras" football players will host Jonava's "Lietava" at the National Football Academy stadium for the third time this year and will try to regain the fifth position in the "SMScredid.lt A League" that belonged to the Kaunas team for a long time.
Both teams started the fifth round of the A League unsuccessfully - Jonava's "Lietava" admitted a 1:4 defeat to Vilnius "Žalgiris", while "Stumbras" received a painful lesson in Marijampolė and capitulated 1:6.
However, both teams tried to quickly forget these losses, as today they face a very important battle, which is rightfully called a fight for fifth place in football circles.
"We don't have the right to play as we did in Marijampolė. That was one of the worst matches this season, after which we must draw lessons. However, we need to look forward, as the past cannot be changed. Now we are maximally determined to achieve victory and fulfill our goal for this season - to take the fifth place," said the head coach of "Stumbras" Mariano Barreto.
In the tournament table, "Lietava" currently ranks fifth with 29 points, while the Kaunas team has two points less and is in sixth place. None of the teams have theoretical hopes of taking the fourth place, so today a fierce battle awaits at the NFA stadium in Kaunas.
However, the numbers speak for themselves - "Lietava" has been a favorable opponent this year. In four head-to-head matches, three victories were achieved, and one match ended in a draw. The last match in Jonava two weeks ago ended with a confident 4:1 victory for "Stumbras."
Christians Alex scored two goals and made two assists, Robertas Vėževičius scored once, and Lukas Mičiukas scored an own goal.
