M. Beneta and N. Lukšys joined the Marijampolė 'Sūduva' club.

In the puzzle of the Marijampolė "Sūduva” team for the year 2025, there are two new pieces. Defender Markas Beneta returned to the team after a break, and forward Nojus Lukšys joined the team.

Both football players come to "Sūduva” from "Panevėžys”. M. Beneta parted ways with this club after 2 seasons, while N. Lukšys was loaned to "Sūduva” by the team from Aukštaitija.

31-year-old M. Beneta represented "Sūduva” in the 2021-2022 season and became the Lithuanian vice-champion as well as the winner of the Super Cup with the team.

The defender left Marijampolė to go to "Panevėžys”, where he became the country champion. In the last season of the "TOPsport A League”, M. Beneta played 22 matches, receiving 7 yellow cards. In international competitions, the defender played in four UEFA Champions League qualifying matches, once in the UEFA Europa League, and twice in the UEFA Conference League.

M. Beneta has also represented his hometown team "Klaipėda”, as well as "Atlantas”, Vilnius "Žalgiris”, and "Kauno Žalgiris” in Lithuania. From the latter, the defender moved to Estonia, where in 2019 he represented Narva "Trans” and won the country’s cup. In 2020, the defender played for Sosnowiec's "Zaglebie” team in Poland.

20-year-old N. Lukšys is the son of Povilas Lukšys, who played for "Sūduva” in 2008-2009 and 2010-2012. The new player of "Sūduva”’s father scored 16 goals for the Marijampolė team in 2010 and became the top scorer of the A League.

"I am happy to start the season here. ‘Sūduva’ is a club with a great history; I lived in Marijampolė for several years, and I started attending football training here, so my emotions are definitely good,” said N. Lukšys. "My dad also supported this decision of mine. The expectations for the season are to occupy the highest possible place and to compete seriously in the cup tournament.”

In the last season, the forward stepped onto the pitch 15 times in the "TOPsport A League,” scoring 1 goal. The footballer played three matches in the UEFA Champions League qualifying round and one in the "FPRO LFF Cup”.

As in previous years, the player was noticeable in the second strongest league in the country. Representing the "Panevėžys B” team, N. Lukšys scored 4 goals in 16 matches.

Continuing preparations for the 2025 season, "Sūduva” won their first friendly match against Alytus "Dainava” 1:0. The second friendly match will be played by the Marijampolė team on January 25 at 12:00 against "Šiauliai”.
