This season, the 61-year-old football specialist from Argentina Marcelo Bielsa, who previously coached the Rome "Lazio" club, will take over as the coach of "Lille" in the summer.
The French team officially confirmed that M. Bielsa will join the team on July 1st and lead them in the 2017-18 season.
After Frederico Antonetti was dismissed from his duties as coach of "Lille," the team is currently led by Franck Passi. He is expected to continue working at the club after the season, but will serve as an assistant to M. Bielsa.
"There is no doubt that Marcelo Bielsa is one of the most respected coaches in the world, so his arrival at 'Lille' shows the club's ambitions. It is no secret that the club's owner Gerard Lopez and Bielsa are good friends, so this possibility has been discussed for a long time," the official club statement added.
M. Bielsa briefly took over at "Lazio" in the summer, but resigned from his position after a few days because he did not fulfill his commitments regarding player acquisitions according to the club management.
After playing 26 rounds, the "Ligue 1" team from Lille currently holds the 14th position, with only 4 points separating them from the relegation zone.
