Memphis Depay understands that he did not live up to the hopes placed on him by "Manchester United," but he is confident that soon he will change that.
The 22-year-old player arrived in England for a sum of 27.5 million euros from PSV team, where he scored 22 goals last season. However, he has not managed to shine in the Premier League so far.
Depay appeared in the starting lineup in only 12 out of 20 matches in the Premier League, and lately he has lost his place to Jesse Lingard. When asked if he justified the team's hopes in buying him, the Dutchman admitted that he has not done so yet.
"No. Not yet. I know that. And I will continue to fight for it. I have very high expectations of myself. This is very important. Both the club and I are trying to improve. I don't want to give a date when it will happen, but it will happen. Confidence in myself and gained experience will help me. You learn from your mistakes. Positive moments will come and I will continue to work to achieve them as soon as possible," said Depay.
This season, the player who has not yet been included in the starting lineup in the Premier League has scored two goals in total in English competitions.
