M. Keown: Investment in M. Ozil was a terrible thing

Legendary Arsenal figure Martin Keown sharply criticized the team's biggest star Mesut Ozil after his withdrawal from the UEFA Europa League.

This season, the German, like the entire Arsenal team, has been underperforming. Ozil played very poorly yesterday against Madrid's Atletico, who beat the Gunners and advanced to the final.

Keown criticized the player's attitude on the field. In his opinion, Ozil should show more energy and dedication, as he is not worth the money he receives after signing a new contract with the club.

"I think he should look at how Vieira played with the ball and how he fought every time he lost it. He should show at least a little energy and dedication on the field. He constantly raises his arms up as if telling other players that they are not as good as him," - the former defender did not mince his words.

"The team needs a player who would grab him and tell him that we are trying to give you the ball, we work hard to get it back, and you do not make enough effort for us.

I guess he will not be playing this season. He is such an emotionally unstable player. I do not even know how many injuries he had this season. That guy is no longer funny. Such performances cannot be tolerated. He does not give his all, there are much better players to play in his place.

I do not know what the new coach plans to do. Wenger's decision to invest money in this guy was terrible. He does not even work half of what he is paid for, and this will be a big problem for the incoming coach.

He was not ready to wear the club's shirt today. I noticed this not just in one match this season. He is a World Cup champion, we expect to see something from him, but now we only see a player not fully committed to the club," - Keown concluded.
