Former "Liverpool" striker Michael Owen does not believe that Philippe Coutinho will leave the club this summer.
The "Reds" have already rejected a £72 million offer for the Brazilian, but rumors about his departure have intensified recently, as Barcelona sold Neymar and are looking for a replacement.
According to various reports, the Catalans are now prepared to pay up to £120 million for the attacking midfielder.
"News coming out of Spain is certainly like adding fuel to the fire, if Neymar's deal goes through. Speculations about Coutinho's move are increasing," Owen told Press Association Sport.
"However, not so long ago he was happy enough to sign a long-term contract, and the club made it to the Champions League and strengthened the squad.
"I think they took a really good step by signing him to a long-term deal, because, worst-case scenario, they would get a lot of money for him, although I can't imagine that happening."
"I don't see how the deal could go through without Coutinho feeling unhappy. It's inevitable that many good players want to test themselves in Spain, but a situation like this with a long contract means something."
Moreover, Owen believes that coach Jurgen Klopp's determination to keep Coutinho is also reflected in the fact that not many new players were bought this summer.
Last season, in 31 Premier League matches, the Brazilian scored 13 goals and provided seven assists.
