For the past two weeks, Mesut Ozil, who has been missing games due to a viral illness, has stated that his future at London's "Arsenal" club depends on the head coach Arsene Wenger.
The 28-year-old attacking midfielder would be willing to sign a new contract with "Arsenal" if he was assured that A. Wenger would continue to lead the team.
There is increasing speculation in the media that this season will be crucial for A. Wenger. If they fail to win an important title, the club may part ways with the strategist. Possible candidates for the position of "Arsenal" coach are already being discussed in the press, including Massimiliano Allegri, Eddie Howe, and Roger Schmidt.
M. Ozil told the German press: "I am very happy at Arsenal. The club already knows that I would be willing to sign a new contract. The fans here want me."
"The club knows very well that Arsene Wenger has contributed the most to my being here. He is the person who attracted me here and whom I trust very much," Ozil mentioned about the excellent relationship and desire to continue working with A. Wenger.
The current contract of the German national team defender with "Arsenal" is valid until 2018.
