Former long-time member of the German national team and London's Arsenal defender Mesut is retiring from professional football.

As journalist Yakup Cinar reports, the 34-year-old player has parted ways with Istanbul's Basaksehir team and has decided to hang up his boots.

Mesut Özil spent his best career years in clubs such as Bremen's Werder, Madrid's Real, and Arsenal.

It was from the Gunners team that he moved to Istanbul's Fenerbahçe in 2021, where he played one season. Later, he also played for the Basaksehir team.

He achieved the most impressive career successes with the German national team, with which the footballer became a world champion in 2014 and took third place in the 2010 World Cup.
