Londono „Arsenal“ saugas Mesut Ozil says that despite negative comments about him, he does not feel the need to prove anything.
The record signing of the club has been scrutinized since his first season, and this year the criticism of the German escalated even further after the defeat to Borussia Dortmund.
However, with the coach returning Ozil to his usual "number 10 position" in Saturday's match against Aston Villa, the footballer rehabilitated himself by scoring a goal and making an assist.
"I don't play to prove anything, I play for Arsenal," Ozil told DPA. "I feel like I receive more criticism than others. This happened both in the Bundesliga and representing Real Madrid."
"We've barely started the season, and newcomers are playing in key positions. In such cases, the team game I am responsible for cannot stick perfectly from the first day."
Ozil also disagreed with the fact that he faces criticism after just a few unsuccessful matches.
"Before I was selected by the fans as one of the best in the Premier League after 10 weeks."
"Later I became a world champion. Then there was the summer break and after a few matches, my game was criticized again. It's strange, but I know what I can do on the field."
