Mesut Ozil remembered the summer of 2013, when he had to leave Real Madrid as the new season was already starting. The German football star was bought by Arsenal in London for 50 million euros. Ozil was one of the most important players in the Real team, but the arrivals of Gareth Bale and Isco left him no choice but to leave the team. Ozil still remembers his departure with a bitter taste in his mouth. "Leaving Real was the toughest decision of my life," the footballer said. "It's no secret that my heart still beats to the rhythm of Real. My biggest dream was to win the Champions League with this team."
Remembering his first day in Madrid, Ozil said, "I was very nervous, but at the same time happy and grateful to be in such a club. I always dreamed of playing where my ideal, Zinedine Zidane, played." Ozil also added that in the summer of 2010, he had the opportunity to move to Barcelona, but a conversation with Jose Mourinho convinced him to choose Real. "After the World Cup, many teams wanted me - Real, Barca, Arsenal, Bayern, and Man Utd. I liked Barcelona's style of play, but Guardiola didn't show that he really wanted me. Mourinho was very convincing, friendly, and determined. He was the complete opposite of Guardiola. That was the key factor in my decision to join Real."
In three years at Real, Ozil played 159 matches, scored 27 goals, and made 80 assists.
