Michel Platini resigns from the position of UEFA president. This became clear on Monday when the International Court of Sports Arbitration refused to satisfy the 60-year-old Frenchman's request to lift the ban on engaging in any football-related activities.
The court only reduced M. Platini's sentence from four years to four years.
After this decision, M. Platini's lawyers stated that their client had no choice but to resign.
On December 21, the FIFA Ethics Committee punished him with an 8-year disqualification from football: there was no case of possible corruption against him, but FIFA acknowledged that the official found himself in a conflict of public and private interests, received several expensive gifts, and was not loyal.
