UEFA President Michel Platini has proposed to replace yellow cards in football with temporary removals from the field.
The legendary Frenchman wants players who violate rules during matches to be able to be removed from the field for 10 or 15 minutes.
According to M. Platini, applying such a penalty would be fairer, as a player who violates the rules would be punished immediately and the opposing team would gain an advantage.
Under current rules, the benefits of a player's disqualification for yellow cards go to a third party - the team that the player misses the match against.
M. Platini also suggested that goalkeepers who violate rules in the penalty area should not be removed from the field, as in such cases a penalty kick is already awarded.
