UEFA President Michel Platini says that he would like to see two additional referees in every football match to help reduce the often controversial incidents.
"My idea is to increase the number of referees during football matches," said M. Platini to the French magazine "France Football" on Tuesday. - Three referees officiating is an outdated news, as they are unable to see everything that happens on the field."
In addition to the main match referee and two assistant referees, the legendary French player wants to add two more referees who would be behind the goal and could see what is happening in the goalkeeper's penalty area.
"I would like to propose two additional referees, aged around 45, who would not have to run, as they would observe the game behind the goal," added M. Platini, who was elected as the new UEFA President in January. - We need to show the world that we are against bias and would like to correct a few mistakes."
The Frenchman spoke out against using electronic devices and video equipment, which he believes would only help the match officials.
"There is a huge risk in using electronic devices, and they could make football very uninteresting for the spectators," said M. Platini. - "If television channels want to become the owners of refereeing, they can hold elections."
