London's Tottenham club ended their battle for the English League Cup title at the very beginning of the season - Spurs sensationally lost to a fourth division club in the third round.
In a match featuring Dele Alli, Lucas Moura, and several other key players, Tottenham lost to the Colchester team after an 11-meter penalty shootout.
After the match, Mauricio Pochettino did not excessively criticize his team, but hinted at future changes.
"All we needed today was to win. Playing in this stage of the tournament doesn't necessarily mean you have to perform well, the most important thing is the result. Unfortunately, we lost after an 11-meter penalty shootout," said the manager, whose Spurs team has lost 13 times in the last 26 matches.
"The opponents defended well, but we had to play more aggressively in their penalty area. We are very disappointed. There were several good moments in the game, but we couldn't find ways to score," he continued.
"Now we are in a fairly difficult situation. We need to regain what we lost in the preparation phase. Perhaps our performances are not bad, but the current situation requires all of us to work together," the manager added.
Referring to the team's strength, Pochettino added: "We are working hard for the whole team to come together. We need time now. January will be the right time to fix our problems. There are things in football that you simply can't control.
This just shows that we are ordinary people and in order to remain successful, we must be different every season. We need something new and we will get it."
