The head coach of London's Tottenham Mauricio Pochettino claims that negotiations for a new contract with Christian Eriksen are stalling, so it is uncertain if the Dane will remain in the team next season.
C. Eriksen has a contract until 2020, but interest is shown by all of Europe's top clubs. Tottenham is negotiating intensely with the player and is willing to pay him double the salary, but the Dane has dreams of playing for La Liga giants.
"Eriksen is a very important player for the Tottenham team. Everyone wants such a player beside them, but he has the right to choose what he wants," said M. Pochettino at a press conference.
"It would be fantastic if he committed to the club for a long time. He is happy here, always shows his dedication, but his situation for the future is not in our hands," added the manager.
The 26-year-old's contract with Tottenham expires in 2020, so clubs aiming for him next summer could be in luck, as his price should not exceed 60 million euros.
According to various sources, the most realistic next step in C. Eriksen's career is with Real Madrid, who see the Dane as an ideal candidate to replace Luka Modrić.
