„Manchester United“ club announced that shining stars Marcus Rashford and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson have signed contracts with the club until 2020 with the possibility of extending them for another season.
18-year-old M. Rashford went through the entire „United“ academy system and made his debut in the main team this season in the Europa League match against „Midtjylland“. The forward took advantage of the opportunity, scoring two goals in his debut match, and three days later he also scored in the match against „Arsenal“. M. Rashford played 17 matches this season, scoring 8 goals.
Executive director Ed Woodward said: „Marcus is a very talented player with great potential. He has made good use of the opportunities given to him and quickly integrated into the main team. I am pleased that he has extended his contract and is in the right club to continue his development. He is still very young and we must be patient, but he is progressing in the right direction and we believe he has a bright future.“
M. Rashford himself said: „I am very happy to have signed a new contract. I have always been a fan of „Manchester United“, so playing in the first team is truly a dream come true. I am grateful for the opportunity to prove that I can compete at the highest level. Playing football in the biggest club in the world means a lot to me and my family.“
Meanwhile, C. Borthwick-Jackson also went through all the layers of the „United“ academy, and made his debut in the main team in the „Premier“ League match against „West Bromwich Albion“ in November. The defender continued his development and represented the club 14 times this season. He was also named the best player of this season under 21 years old category, with votes from „United“ fans.
After the contract announcement, Ed Woodward expressed his delight with the extended collaboration: „Cameron is one of the young players who have played in our academy and players under 21 are what make all club members proud. I am pleased that Cameron has signed a new contract and looking forward to seeing him in the squad for many more years.“
