Maurizio Sarri experienced likely the most painful failure in his career - his London "Chelsea" team was crushed in Manchester with a score of 0:6.
After the humiliating loss, "Chelsea" lost the fourth position. M. Sarri could hardly explain what happened on the field after the match, but admitted that an accidental goal by Raheem Sterling in the 4th minute threw the team off balance.
"In the next few hours, we have to find an explanation for what happened in these matches," - the coach told the Italian media.
"Before the match, I was positive, as I have been all week. In the first minutes of the match, we conceded a silly goal that affected our performance thereafter.
"Man City" plays fantastic football, and this performance once again showed what a great team they have. We were completely "switched off" from the game," - said M. Sarri.
Asked if he expected a call from Roman Abramovich, with the thought of being dismissed, M. Sarri said it would be the first time he would hear his voice: "If the president calls, I will be happy because I will hear something I have never heard before. To be honest, I don't know what to expect from this situation."
After the match, there was a lot of talk about the episode where M. Sarri did not shake hands with P. Guardiola after the final whistle. The Italian himself said that at that moment his thoughts were elsewhere.
"I just didn't see Pep, I just wanted to reach the dressing room as quickly as possible. Then, as always, I went and congratulated him on the victory," - clarified M. Sarri.
