Maurizio Sarri explained why N'Golo Kante has been playing in a somewhat unconventional position until now.
N. Kante, known for his defensive functions, this season at London's Chelsea club is forced to play a style of football not typical for him. In the position of defensive midfielder, M. Sarri uses Jorginho, while N. Kante often plays on the edges with Mateo Kovacic.
Many football experts started to criticize M. Sarri for not using N. Kante as a holding midfielder. However, in Italian football, this position requires a different type of player, a so-called "regista."
"I believe you know that in the position of defensive midfielder, I want to play with a technically skilled player, like Jorginho or Fabregas. I don't want to play with Kante in this position," M. Sarri clearly stated at a press conference.
Then the coach also had some remarks for the Frenchman for his performance against Tottenham: "In the last matches, Kante wanted to solve everything in the first 15 minutes, but he did it in the wrong way. He lost his position on the field. He attacked too much in the opponent's half. I believe this is not the best choice knowing the type of player he is. Maybe it's just a matter of time, but at the moment he needs to play alongside Jorginho, especially when the ball is in the opponent's half."
