M. Starkus: "Wales becomes the champion of EURO 2016? Why not"

Journalist and traveler Martynas Starkus visited the video conference of the news portal Alfa.lt and shared his thoughts on the European Football Championship.

"Euro 2016" competition finished the group stage battles late Wednesday evening, and on Saturday the 16 strongest teams of the Old Continent will begin their confrontations in the quarterfinals.

"I hear a lot of different opinions about this championship. Some find it boring because defensive football prevails. Others find it interesting because many unexpected results have been recorded. Who could have thought that Iceland would reach the next stage? To me, these championships and the chosen format are truly interesting. If someone said that Wales would become champions, I would say why not? Things are going well for them so far. However, if I had to bet, I would bet on the Germans," - said the well-known man in public.

When asked which team he supports the most, M. Starkus did not lack his characteristic humor. "I support England, probably influenced by Gary Lineker, Steven Gerrard, and other English legends. However, during the championships, one has to be disappointed because even in England there is such a joke - support the English and then what?" - he replied.

"There are many versions as to why Russian fans behaved so aggressively and hooliganistically. They themselves say that they never started the first fight. Naturally, living in such an environment and absorbing the information presented in the public space in Russia, you only see enemies everywhere. They have a 'zone' mentality - the more you 'give it to the nose', the tougher you are. Such behavior is a consequence of the situation the country is currently in. It's a pity that it is like this, it's a pity that geographically we are neighbors. It is already clear that the 2018 World Cup in Russia will not be the most welcoming in history. We see why," - Martynas expressed his opinion.

Since 1982, a participant interested in the final stages of championships also reviewed all quarterfinal pairs, gave his prediction, shared the football culture seen in various corners of the world, and wished Alfa.lt readers and viewers: "We are 'loaded' with bad news - military conflicts, aggression, terrorism... These sports events are a celebration, so I suggest enjoying them both for men and their women. Enjoy the fact that your men are not drunk on the streets, not lying in a ditch, but watching football and discussing it."
