Today an official announcement was made that the coach of the Belgium national team, Marc Wilmots, has been relieved of his duties.
The decision was announced by the Belgian Football Federation, which thanked the coach for his work with the national team over the past four years.
"We would like to thank Marc Wilmots for his work over the past four years. With Marc Wilmots, our team rose from 54th position to first place in the FIFA rankings. He achieved 34 victories in 51 matches, and played to a draw eight times."
"Nevertheless, the technical committee of the Belgian federation evaluated the team's performance in the European Championship and decided that the team did not achieve its goals. We believe that the team needs a new impulse to help them achieve the highest results in the most important tournaments," stated the Belgian Football Federation.
The Belgian Football Federation hopes to find a new coach by the first day of September.
