Madagascar plays for the first time in the history of the country in the African Nations Cup

October 16 became a historic day for the whole of Madagascar - for the first time, the national football team of this country will play in the African Cup of Nations.

The Madagascar football team won the qualification match in Group A against Equatorial Guinea by a minimal margin on Tuesday and secured a place in the African Cup of Nations taking place in Cameroon in 2019.

Madagascar has already collected 10 points in their qualification group. Senegal is in second place with 7 points, Equatorial Guinea has three points, and Sudan remains without any points. Therefore, the Madagascar team will no longer drop below the second position, guaranteeing direct entry into the main tournament in the continent.

Madagascar has never before played in any official tournament.

The African Cup of Nations, which will take place next summer, has increased the number of teams competing from 16 to 24.

Around 24 million people live in Madagascar.
