The president of Madrid had met with the agent of La Coruna's star Alberto Luque, which sparked discussions that the Madrid club will try to acquire this Spanish national team player in the summer.

Atletico's president Enrique Cerezo confirmed to a Spanish television station that he had met with the footballer's father, who is also his agent.

E. Cerezo also added that he will now present the details of the meeting to the club's coaching staff to find out if they would like to have the 27-year-old forward in their squad.

"Luque's father spoke with Atletico on Thursday and now we know his opinion," said E. Cerezo. "If our coaches want this player, the next step will be to negotiate with Deportivo."

Atletico's president stated that the meeting was not arranged by the club.

A. Luque's contract with Deportivo is valid until 2010, but it is believed that the Madrid club is willing to pay around 12 million euros for the forward. Deportivo's star is also actively being sought after by Atletico.
