On Friday evening in Madrid, at the "Vicente Calderon" stadium, the second Spanish Super Cup match was played between the country's champions Madrid's "Atletico" and the "Copa del Rey" winners Madrid's "Real" footballers. The first match ended in a draw 1 - 1 at the "Santiago Bernabeu" stadium.
In the first minutes of the match, the hosts pressured the opponent's goal and the pressure paid off in the 2nd minute of the match: after a pass from Antoine Griezmann, Mario Mandžukič sent the ball into Iker Casillas's goal with a header.
This early goal forced "Real" players to attack more actively and they did so for the majority of the first half, while "Atletico", having achieved a favorable result, settled for counterattacks.
The royal club newcomer James Rodriguez had several opportunities to score, as did Gareth Bale, but the goalkeeper Moya confidently defended the goal.
At the beginning of the second half, "Real" tried to press the opponents, but over time the game equalized and "Atletico" even had several excellent opportunities to double the lead and make life even harder for Carlo Ancelotti's students, but attempts from A.Griezmann, M.Mandžukič, and Koke did not find the target.
At the end of the match, "Real" defender Luka Modrić could not cope with the tension and received a second yellow card for a foul on Christian Rodrigues, and went to rest before the referee's final whistle.
Soon after, the referee declared the end of the match and confirmed the triumph of Diego Simeone's students in the Spanish Super Cup.
