It seems that the upcoming season has already come to an end for Marco Asensio, a representative of Madrid's "Real" team, even though it hasn't officially started for him yet.
The 23-year-old footballer suffered an injury in a friendly match against London's "Arsenal". After stumbling in the field, the Spanish player couldn't get back up and had to be carried off on a stretcher.
Asensio was immediately taken to the hospital, where thorough tests were performed overnight. The team's coach Zinedine Zidane stated after the match that the player had injured his knee and the trauma seemed very serious.
Madrid's "Real" club issued a statement confirming that the player had torn the anterior cruciate ligaments in his left knee. He will undergo surgery in the coming days.
It was also reported that his meniscus was damaged - the cartilaginous tissue located between the tibia and femur in the knee joint.
There are no precise forecasts at the moment, but it is believed that Asensio may be forced to miss the entire 2019-20 season.
