Today (Sunday) three matches of the 25th round of the Spanish championship ("La Liga") were played. A big surprise was recorded in Pamplona, where the local team "Osasuna" lost 1-6 to the "Malaga" team, while the assistant coach-led "Valencia" obtained an important victory against "Betis".
In the matches held in Pamplona, "Osasuna" couldn't do anything against the well-performing attack of "Malaga" and after conceding 6 goals and ending the match with two players receiving red cards, they were forced to leave the field with their heads held low.
The heavily-hoped "Sevilla" did not unexpectedly win, as they played to a 2-2 draw at home against "Racing", who is in 17th place in the standings. Although the hosts took the lead twice with goals from Julio Baptista and Dario Silva, the score was equalized by David Aganzo and Regueiro.
Only David Villa's goal helped "Zaragoza" beat the "Villarreal" club, who had reached the quarterfinals of the UEFA Cup.
Madrid's "Atletico" managed to secure a victory against "Real Sociedad" in San Sebastian, who are at the bottom of the standings and have lost their leader Nihat for the rest of the season, with just one goal scored by Antonio Lopez in the middle of the first half. This victory revived hopes for Madrid's club to fight for a place in next year's UEFA Cup.
In the last matches of the day, the defending champions "Valencia" obtained a crucial victory at home against "Betis" and returned to fourth place in the standings. Led by assistant coach Antonio Lopez, who is temporarily replacing the dismissed Claudio Ranieri, the Valencia players played with a lineup very similar to the one that won the Spanish championship and UEFA Cup last season. Although the hosts conceded the first goal, they managed to show their superiority and secure the victory.
Meanwhile, the match between Bilbao "Athletic" and "Getafe" has been postponed due to rescheduled UEFA Cup matches.
Sunday's match results:
Osasuna 1 - 6 Malaga
Sevilla 2 - 2 Racing Santander
Zaragoza 1 - 0 Villarreal
