Captain Paolo Maldini, an Italian, announced that he has reached an agreement with the team regarding the extension of his contract for another season.
"My current contract is valid until 2005, but we have agreed with AC Milan to extend it for another season," said Maldini.
The 35-year-old Italian, who has been playing for AC Milan for 20 years, did not rule out the possibility of representing the Italian national team again. Although this veteran retired from the national team after the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea, there are rumors that he may return to represent his country in this year's European Championship in Portugal.
It was also rumored that another star of the national team, Francesco Totti, could oppose Maldini's possible comeback, but the player himself denied these rumors, stating that he has no problems with any of his national team teammates.
"If I were to change my mind, I would speak directly to the national team coach Giovanni Trapattoni, not through the press," said the legendary defender. "And I have certainly never had any problems with other players, including Francesco Totti."
