During the break in the English championship on Saturday, one FA Cup quarter-final match was played - a tense encounter between "Middlesbrough" and "Man Utd" ended in a draw.
2 - 2
23' [0 - 1] Wayne Rooney
45' [1 - 1] Lee Cattermole
47' [2 - 1] George Boateng
68' [2 - 2] Cristiano Ronaldo (pen.)
During warm-up, "Man Utd" lost the injured Edwin van der Saar, so in his place the team's goal was guarded by the Pole Tomasz Kuszczak, who had work to do right at the beginning of the match by blocking a shot from the home team's striker Stewart Downing.
Later, the visitors gradually settled into the game and in the 23rd minute broke ahead - receiving the ball from Ryan Giggs, Wayne Rooney scored with a precise shot. "Middlesbrough" soon responded with a dangerous attack from Yakubu, after which T. Kuszczak had to save the "Man Utd" team, and in the 35th minute after a pass from Gary Neville, a shot by R. Giggs was only stopped by the post.
Nevertheless, just before halftime, the hosts equalized - as T. Kuszczak was unable to clear the ball, Julio Arca made a pass closer to the goal and Lee Cattermole sent the ball into the net with a shot. The first half ended in a 1-1 draw.
In the second half, just a couple of minutes after the start, "Middlesbrough" broke ahead again, when after a corner kick by S. Downing, an unmarked George Boateng scored with a header. However, he made a mistake in the 68th minute handling the ball in the penalty area, and the resulting penalty was converted by Cristiano Ronaldo, giving them a chance to win in the home rematch.
