"Man Utd" club sues popular video game developers © JumpStory

"Football Manager" is one of the most popular football games in which you can embody the role of a club manager and make the most important decisions. However, even though the game is insanely popular, the logos of most teams in it are simply computer-generated, as the developers do not have all the necessary licenses. In the game, usually only abbreviations of real team names are used, and this aspect did not sit well with the managers of "Manchester United," who decided to take legal action due to the improper use of the team's name. The "Man Utd" lawyer claims that by not using the actual team logo, but providing players with the abbreviation of the team name, the developers are trying to avoid the obligation to purchase an official license from the club. Moreover, "Sega Publishing" and "Sports Interactive" are accused of encouraging and supporting various modifications that allow players to see real club logos in their game. The developers of "Football Manager" insist that they only use the name as a reference to the club, and a similar strategy has been in place since 1992, but so far "Man Utd" has not taken any legal action. It is worth noting that "Man Utd" recently announced that the club's debt has significantly increased, now exceeding 429 million pounds. The exact date of the trial should be clarified in the near future.
