On Wednesday, two postponed matches were played in the English Premier League. In those matches, the teams higher in the standings proved their superiority - "Man Utd" crushed "Wigan", who were sinking deeper into trouble, while "West Ham" defeated local rivals "Everton" in Liverpool.
Manchester's team, led by the increasingly pressured Sir Alex Ferguson, scored four goals against "Wigan" and kept a clean sheet. The goals for the "Red Devils" were scored by Rio Ferdinand (his first goal for the club), Ruud van Nistelrooy, and Wayne Rooney. The latter beat the opposing goalkeeper twice.
After this victory, "Man Utd" returned to the second place in the standings, edging out "Liverpool" by three points. However, the strongest European club has played one less match.
In the other match, "West Ham" defeated "Everton" 2-1. The hosts took the lead with a goal from James Beattie in the 9th minute, but the visitors equalized after ten minutes and then took the lead in the middle of the second half.
"Everton" currently sits in fifteenth place with 17 points, while "West Ham" in seventh place with 25 points.
