Having started the season unsuccessfully and already eliminated from European tournaments, Manchester United reached an agreement with Moscow for the transfer of Serbian Nemanja Vidic during the winter transfer window, as announced by the official "Red Devils" website on Monday.

Although the transfer fee is not disclosed, the 24-year-old center-back is expected to finalize the contract terms with the Manchester club in the near future and, if the Serbian successfully passes the medical examination, officially become a member of "Man Utd" on January 1st.

"I am pleased that the clubs have reached an agreement," said "Red Devils" coach Sir Alex Ferguson to the official "Man Utd" website. "Nemanja is a quick and aggressive center-back, and at 24, he is a great addition to the team."

In 2004, he was the captain of his first team, Belgrade's "Crvena Zvezda", and after the season he moved to Moscow's "Spartak", with whom he won the Russian silver this year, playing 27 matches in the team of the Russian capital and scoring twice.

He was also a key player of the Serbia and Montenegro national team, scoring only one goal during the qualification for the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
