The English youth (up to 21 years old) national team center-back had also received offers from Liverpool and Arsenal in London, but decided to join the ranks of the Premier League champions.
The 19-year-old player made his debut in the top league just last spring, but is already considered one of the most promising in the country.
However, it will not be easy for him to overcome experienced players like Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand in the competitive battle for a place in the starting line-up, as well as substitutes Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans.
