The new research released by the CIES Football Observatory in Switzerland revealed that "Manchester City" currently has the most expensive squad in its history.
The leaders of the Premier League have spent a total of 878 million euros in the transfer market. This sum was recently added to by the record purchase of defender Aymeric Laporte.
The investments made by the "Citizens" exceed those of the "Paris Saint-Germain" club, which spent more than a quarter of the total squad cost on the 222 million euro Neymar. In total, PSG's players cost 805 million euros.
In the list, the third place is taken by "Manchester United" (747 million), the fourth by "Barcelona" (725 million), with London's "Chelsea" and Madrid's "Real" significantly behind (592 million and 497 million euros respectively).
Among the top 20 biggest spenders are six Premier League clubs, including "Liverpool" (461 million), London's "Arsenal" (403 million), Liverpool's "Everton" (365 million), "Tottenham" (358 million), "Southampton" (229 million), and "Crystal Palace" (225 million).
The average squad of teams in the top division of England cost a whopping 291 million euros, which is significantly more than in other top leagues. The average team in La Liga cost 131 million euros, Serie A - 124 million, Bundesliga - 113 million, and Ligue 1 - 97 million.
