Mancini: Rooney convinced the referee to send off Kompany (VIDEO) © EuroFootball.com

Strategist Roberto Mancini blames forward Wayne Rooney for the red card received by Vincent Kompany.

According to the Italian, after the defender's attempt to take the ball in the FA Cup match, the Englishman actively urged referee Chris Foy to take action.

"There should not have been a red card, I am 300 percent sure of that," Mancini insisted. "Rooney told the referee what decision to make. He was very close."

However, the "Man Utd" player denied the accusations: "It's funny to see that some blame me for this. It wasn't me who showed the card. But the decision was clear: he jumped in with both feet, which means expulsion from the field."

"Man City" has filed an appeal, as the Belgian was automatically given a three-match ban. If the appeal is rejected, there is a risk that the punishment could be extended to five matches.
