The legendary Argentine footballer became the vice president of Buenos Aires celebrating its centenary anniversary this year, announced the capital's club on Saturday.
"We are proud to have Maradona here. I hope this will be the beginning of a long collaboration," said Boca Juniors president Mauricio Macri at a press conference.
D. Maradona represented one of the most prestigious Argentine clubs in 71 matches, playing for the club twice: in 1981 and from 1995-1997. The last match of D. Maradona as a professional was with Boca Juniors on October 27, 1997. On that day, Boca Juniors defeated their fierce rivals "River Plate" 2-1.
"Thanks to Macri and the board of directors for the opportunity to work together. I hope to pass on my experience playing football to Boca Juniors. I came to this club to help it grow," said D. Maradona at the press conference.
Recently, during the farewell match for Turin's "Juventus" defender Ciro Ferrara at the Napoli stadium, Maradona promised to help revive the legendary Italian club that went bankrupt a year ago, where he played during his glory days.
