Diego Maradona says he wants to return to the helm of the Argentine national team and is willing to forgo the services of his much criticized assistants.
The legendary footballer, who led his country's team for over a year, stepped down from his position after losing to the German team in the quarter-finals of the World Cup.
The 49-year-old coach was told he could remain in his post, but only if some of his assistants were let go.
Although Maradona fiercely defended his colleagues at that time, now his stance has changed: "The national team is more important to me than life itself.
"I am dying for it. I thirst for revenge."
However, returning will not be easy for Maradona - the national team is currently being temporarily coached by Sergio Batista. Argentine football leaders recently stated that it is unlikely he will be offered a long-term contract.
