As reported by the Bundesliga club Hertha Berlin, Brazilian goalkeeper Marcelinho is leaving his current team and moving to the Turkish top league team Trabzonspor.

"Marcelinho is leaving Hertha Berlin," the German club states on its website. "The Brazilian will soon move to the Turkish first division club Trabzonspor."

Hertha announced that the 31-year-old goalkeeper has signed a three-year contract with the new club, and Trabzonspor has laid down a sum of 2.5 million euros for the player.

The Brazilian, who has been representing the capital club since 2001, scored 65 goals in 155 matches for the team. In the 2004/2005 season, he stood out by scoring 18 times and claimed the top spot in the "Kicker" magazine's ranking of the best Bundesliga players, surpassing former Bayern Munich star Michael Ballack.

However, despite his excellent performances as a goalkeeper, Marcelinho failed to secure a spot in the Brazilian national team, representing the country only five times.

The determined Brazilian was considered one of the key players of Hertha Berlin, but he was also undisciplined and had a number of off-the-field issues – frequently returning late to training after summer and Christmas holidays.
