Mariano marking the return to Madrid with a goal: "It was a dream come true"

Returning to Real Madrid this summer, Mariano Diaz finally got his second debut in the team - the striker appeared on the field in the match against Roma.

The return couldn't have been better - the 25-year-old footballer replaced Gareth Bale on the field and scored a real rocket into Roma's goal during extra time. Real Madrid began their journey towards the fourth UEFA Champions League title with a 3-0 victory.

Mariano, who made his debut in the main team in 2016, returned this summer from Lyon for a fee of 23 million euros. The club's graduate was assigned the prestigious number 7.

"Last night my dream came true. I can only say the most beautiful words of thanks to all those who supported me. You can't even imagine how happy I was to see the ball fly into the goal," Mariano said after the match.

"It was a great victory. We played against a really strong opponent, but created so many chances that the result could have been completely different. This year we hope to go as far as possible again," continued the striker.

When asked about his ambitions in the team, Mariano remained professional: "Will I take over the role of the first striker from Benzema? I definitely don't think about that. We are a team."
