The French club bought Senegal national team player Mamadou Niang for 7 million euros.

The 25-year-old forward, who scored 21 goals after joining "Strasbourg" from "ES Troyes Aube Champagne" in 2003, signed a four-year contract with "Marseille". Niang has previously been in the same team as the coach of the Intertoto participant, "Marseille", Jean Fernandez, when he was loaned to "Metz" in the 2002-2003 season.

"I couldn't refuse the offer from "Marseille"," Niang said. "I know Jean Fernandez well. He is a good coach. When I was young, "Marseille" was always "my" team. I wish the French championship would start now."
