Finishing in sixth place in the French championship, the player from Scotland, Julien Rodriguez, returned to his homeland. The former "Monaco" defender underwent a medical check-up on Thursday in Marseille and signed a two-and-a-half-year contract.
In 2004, the 28-year-old Frenchman, who played in the UEFA Champions League final with "Monaco," moved to Glasgow the following year. In Scotland, the defender was a regular player in the starting lineup, but he himself wanted to return to his homeland.
"I told my agent that I wanted to leave 'Rangers'," commented the player on the situation. "Then he informed me that 'Marseille' was interested in me. I immediately said 'yes,' as you cannot reject an offer from 'Marseille'."
The defender had no regrets about the years spent in Glasgow and said he had learned a lot during that time.
"But I couldn't refuse to play for a team whose stadium I used to visit with my father when I was young," said the Frenchman. "I am from that region, so I always dreamed of playing for 'Marseille'."
J. Rodriguez left 'Rangers' just a week after his compatriot Paul Le Guen stepped down as head coach.
The Frenchman could make his debut for 'Marseille' this Sunday in an away match against 'Rennes'.
