The captain of the German national team, Michael Ballack, stated that former national team star Stefan Effenberg would be an excellent coach for Munich when Ottmar Hitzfeld leaves that position.
"Effenberg has a lot of knowledge, knows the club well, and would bring a fresh perspective," said M. Ballack, who left Bayern in the summer and moved to Chelsea in London. "Moreover, he is a very strong personality with great authority."
S. Effenberg also represented Bayern as a player for two periods and was one of the leaders of the team that won the UEFA Champions League in 2001. In 2002, he left the Munich club, which acquired M. Ballack to fill his place.
At 38, S. Effenberg has no coaching experience, but according to M. Ballack, this should not be a problem.
"Even Juergen Klinsmann had no coaching experience when he took over the German national team," the captain noted.
O. Hitzfeld returned to the position of head coach of Bayern in February, replacing Felix Magath. The German confirmed on Thursday that he intends to continue leading the Bundesliga giants.
