McClaren can coach the England national team again © EuroFootball.com

Steve McClaren could once again take the helm of the England national team in the future, according to one of the country's Football Association (FA) officials, Trevor Brooking.

McClaren led the English team for almost one and a half years, but failed to qualify for the 2008 European Championship finals and was dismissed.

However, the specialist later shined in the Netherlands, where he became a national champion with Twente, and currently works at the German club Wolfsburg.

"Could Steve coach the national team again? I am sure that if he continues to work successfully, we will see this name among the candidates."

"I wouldn't rule anything out. I don't think it would be fair to do so."

Currently, the England team is led by Italian Fabio Capello, but the Italian has already confirmed his departure after the 2012 European Championship finals.

At that time, the team's reins will likely be taken over by a local specialist, and among the candidates, names such as Harry Redknapp, Sam Allardyce, Steve Bruce, Roy Hodgson, and Martin O'Neill are mentioned.
