The World Cup is an extraordinary event not only for spectators, but also for players. This was once again confirmed by Argentine Martin Demichelis, representing Munich's team, stating that it no longer makes sense for him to live after not being selected for the national team.
The 25-year-old footballer was unexpectedly left out of the lineup announced by head coach Jose Pekerman on Monday, so he definitely won't be going to Germany.
"It no longer makes sense not only to continue playing football, but to live in general," - not hiding his disappointment, M. Demichelis spoke to one Argentine TV channel.
The Argentine arrived at "Bayern" in 2003 from his home country's "River Plate" team and became one of the most important and reliable defenders in the club. The defensive style player helped the team win the national championship title twice and triumph in cup competitions the same number of times.
In place of M. Demichelis, the young Javier Mascherano was invited to the national team. Not only that, J. Pekerman did not find a place for Javier Zanetti in the national team, choosing Lionel Scaloni representing "West Ham" instead.
Argentina will play in the World Cup group with the Netherlands, Ivory Coast, and Serbia and Montenegro.
