Argentinian Martin Demichelis has agreed to extend his current contract with Munich until 2010, multiple German champions announced on Thursday.
The 24-year-old Argentinian arrived at Bayern in 2003 from River Plate as a defender, but had little playing time on the field until last season when he requalified as a defensive midfielder and has since become one of the team's most consistent players. With his reliable play, he earned a place in the Argentine national team.
Bayern's desire to renew the Argentinian's contract, which was set to expire in 2007, demonstrates that M.Demichelis is valued as a pillar for the club in the future, as recently Bayern has been in no rush to extend contracts with other team players, with contracts of even ten players set to expire in June 2006.
