"Member of the Russian Football Union Committee Igor Lebedev expressed his position on the issue of fan riots in Marseille on social media.
According to the Russian, he sees no reason to be afraid of the events.
"I don't think fan fights are something bad. Our guys, you did great! Keep it up!" - Lebedev reassured his compatriots.
"Everything that happened in Marseille and other French cities occurred not because of alcohol, but due to the local police's inability to prepare for such a high-level tournament.
I don't understand politicians and officials who blame our national team's fans. They had to defend themselves, as the fans will have to return home, so we have to understand them," Lebedev said.
Earlier, it was reported that about 300 Russian hooligans arrived in France just to cause trouble. They were armed with knives, metal bars, had tooth and hand guards.
After the riots, dozens of English people ended up in the hospital, two of them in critical condition.
