Manuel Pellegrini was warned that "Manchester City" would not tolerate another season without titles. The Express.co.uk portal wrote that representatives of the "City" leadership, Khaldoon Al Mubarak and Ferran Soriano, increased pressure on the coach by stating that the team's owner Sheikh Mansour expects titles every season.
Despite the fact that this year the club ended the season without losses for the first time since 2008, when the club was bought by the billionaire from Abu Dhabi, Khaldoon left no doubt that this is not enough to keep the team owner happy.
In his annual statement, he stated: "The pursuit of titles has always been a key element of Sheikh Mansour's strategy to revitalize the Manchester City team both domestically and abroad. This strategy helps ensure long-term stability and team improvement."
"No team can expect to win everything every year, but competing for titles in England and improving results in the UEFA Champions League are goals that are truly achievable for our club," said the team's manager in his statement.
City finished last year in second place in the Premier League, only behind the Chelsea team. However, the team quickly dropped out of both cup competitions in England and ended their Champions League campaign early, stumbling in the quarter-finals.
Although Pellegrini was already considered a contender to leave his post this summer, the team provided him with £160 million for new players and signed a new contract with the manager. Nevertheless, Soriano's statement was clear - if the coach does not fight for titles this season, he will leave the team. This only fueled rumors of a possible move of Josep Guardiola to the City team next summer.
"We are doing many things right, but it is not enough. We will never be satisfied with a season in which we do not fight for titles, so our priorities are to do everything to win as many trophies as possible in the coming years," Soriano described the team's goals.
Such statements show that the Manchester City club will not accept a scenario in which their team remains without titles for two seasons in a row.
